Our project was inspired by the question, "Is it possible to keep a plant alive without having to remember to water it?" Given the dire drought situation in California a sustainability project like this would have many applications on our campus and in our community.
This quarter we would like to to accomplish some small goals. Firstly, we would like to keep just one plant alive without having to remember to water it (see Our System diagram). Secondly, expand this first stage to keeping four plants alive and collecting the following data: temperature, humidity, and soil moisture.
The purpose of this stage of our project is to collect data from temperature and humidity while simultaneously collecting soil moisture data and see if there is a correlation with this data. Then see if it is possible to use humidity and temperature data to determine when to water a plant.
