Cat Toy Robot
The cat toy robot is a project built and modified based upon an open source project “The Rolly Mk. II robot.”
The goal of the project is to build an autonomous mouse-like cat toy that runs by itself and has the ability to avoid obstacles.

The project was launched and completed in the summer of 2014.
Our “cat toy” robot was able to keep on moving straight by turning around on its own in the presence of a wall. The ultrasonic sensor at the “eye” of the cat toy robot was able to emit sound waves and allow the robot to record the time it took for the waves to bounce back. Based on the time difference between the emitted waves and the returned waves, the robot was able to calculate the distance between the objects and itself, therefore avoiding any collision.
In addition, a tail was attached at the end of the robot for cats to chase – which stimulated the cats very much!
- We will be building a Styrofoam shield for the cat toy
robot so that the robot car will not be damaged easily by the cat.
- We will be building a switch for the cat toy robot so that it is can be turned on and off by the user.
